If God Loves Me Then Why…?

Have you ever thought or have someone ask you, “If God loved me, then why did He let ….?”

This is the question we will be tempted to ask when we don’t have a revelation of why we are here.  If we believe we are here for ourselves and things don’t work out the way we want, we can fall into the trap of thinking in an earthly mindset.  This will lead us to the question, “Well if God loved me then why did He let this happen?”

As Jesus followers, we are called to view life through, and to think from, heavens perspective.  This is possible because 1 Corinthians 2:16 tells us that we have the mind of Christ.

Can you imagine Jesus looking around at His circumstances and saying, “Well I guess my Father doesn’t love Me after all.  I mean look at what’s happening, people are trying to kill me, my friends have abandoned me.  If He loved me then why…”

If we believe it is ridiculous for Jesus to think that way, why do we think it is okay for us to?  Jesus knew why He was on the earth.  He lived from His Father’s perspective.  He knew His Father loved Him and that His life was fulfilling a higher purpose.

The issue of God’s love for us was settled once and for all when He sent His one and only beloved Son to die in our place.  Innocent blood was shed so that He could pay the debt of our sin and free us to be restored to our original position – sons and daughters of God made in His likeness and image.  There is such a bigger call on our lives than, “Jesus loved you and died for you so that you can be forgiven and go to heaven”.

The purpose of the cross is Christ reproducing after His own kind.  The cross wasn’t just so that we would be forgiven but so that we would become forgiveness.  This doesn’t happen unless we know and receive the forgiveness of God.

It’s the same with the love of God.  God didn’t die so that He could love us, He died so that we could become love.  If we don’t receive God’s love, we cannot become love.

Have you settled in your heart that God loves you?  Does your way of thinking support this?  If not, maybe it is time to get alone with God and delve into His word and allow the truth found there to set you free.  You are loved.  Believe it.  Better yet, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, by the grace of God and Holy Spirit living in you, become it.  Become what Christ paid for.  Let God’s love flow in and through you to touch this broken and hurting world so that the people in your life may know the goodness of God and surrender their lives to Him.
