Easter & Our Identity

As Christians, we’ve just celebrated Easter, the most important event in history.   It is the perfect time for us to remember that our identity is in Christ alone.  Our value should be anchored securely in Him and who He says we are.  When we are tempted to think negatively about ourselves (or others) and to believe the lies that the devil would whisper (you cannot, you are not, God cares not etc.) let us bring to mind what happened on Golgotha over 2,000 years ago.

Jesus demonstrated our value in a tangible way.  By His death and resurrection, He declared once and for all that you and I have immeasurable value and worth.

He believed that we were worth His coming to earth, leaving heaven and perfection, living for 33 years in a broken world, under an oppressive and cruel government, suffering horrific torture and humiliation, willingly laying down His life for you, for me.

And then the Holy Spirit, choosing to come and to dwell in us, just as we are, lovingly and patiently refusing to give up on us, no matter what. Why? Because He knows who we really are, and all that God has created us to be.  So, let’s rejoice and be encouraged knowing that He is determined, and fully committed, to working with us and in us, to get us there.

Let’s fix all of our affection on our faithful and loving Saviour and fill our hearts with the reality of His love for us.  Let’s leave the lie that we are not worthy once and for all in the tomb and live fully convinced that we are loved and worth loving – not because of what we have done or how we feel, but because of what Jesus has done and what He says.

Prayer

Wonderful Saviour,

We thank You and praise You for all that You have done.  We stand in awe of such an incomprehensible love, a love poured out for us, and on us.  We choose today to align our beliefs with Yours – we have always been loved, we have always been chosen, we have always been wanted, and we will never be left behind or turned away.  Thank You, that Your Truth trumps all wrong beliefs and broken thinking.  Thank You, that who we are does not depend on us or what others may say, but on You and You alone.  Thank You that we were made for joy, for laughter, for love and for Your glory.  Stir our hearts and minds afresh with this truth, until all that we are, spirit soul and body – every cell within us – vibrates with praise to You and You alone.  For You alone are worthy of all glory and honour and praise.  Thank You for creating us, redeeming us, and for always and in everything, loving us so well.
