New Year, New Opportunities

It is a new year with new opportunities for growth in Jesus and all that He is.

Matthew 14:15-18 (NKJV)

When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish “, He said, “Bring them here to Me.”

What are we going to do with all the challenges and opportunities God gives us this year? What will we do when we find ourselves in “deserted places”? With time running out, thinking that we do not have the resources or cannot possibly do what is being asked of us. Jesus Himself, graciously and lovingly gives us the answer – “Bring them here to Me.”

What happened when the disciples brought their opportunity to Jesus? (opportunity is a Jesus way of looking at what we sometimes mistakenly call a problem.)  They found that what little they had, was more than enough for Jesus.

This year, when facing opportunities for growth in who God wants to be for us, ask, “What do I have?”  Let’s be willing, in faith, to bring what we have, no matter how little we consider it to be, to Him.

When the disciples did this, no one walked away empty.  We know that God’s Word promises that He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).  This means that what He did for them, He will do for us!  We can therefore be confident that when we bring our little to Him, He will take it and do something wonderful so that we, and those with us, will not walk away empty either.

Prayer

Dearest Saviour,

You are a God of miraculous provision! Thank You that You don’t change, You are the same yesterday, today and forever. Thank You that when we bring to You our little, You take it and do something beyond what we could ever think, imagine or ask.  Holy Spirit, would you bring to our minds right now, memories of Your faithfulness in years past (stop for a moment and meditate on how God has been faithful to you).

As we boldly walk with You into all that You have for us for 2019, help us to remember to come to You with everything, confident in the fact that You have the answer to our every question, the solutions to our every need, and that You are for us, never against us. Be glorified in our lives and the lives of our families we pray in Jesus wonderful Name.

Amen.
